How to Cut Cement Tile

Cement tile can be easily cut on a standard tile wet saw. Cement tiles can be cut to fit, as well as mitered, for neat corner joints, where two surfaces meet.

Tile wet saws can be fairly inexpensive. If you don't like to collect tools, many hardware stores have higher-end models available to rent for your one-off projects.

Why Cut Cement Tile?

There are a few reasons why you might cut cement tiles, but most commonly, the tiles will need to be cut to fit the room. Tiles may be trimmed on the last course, to fit against a wall, cut for fixtures such as plumbing, electrical outlets, and HVAC registers.

Cement tiles may also be cut for design, or economy. Some patterns can make fun borders, and many work well when cut. You may have an 8x8 field tile, complimented by another pattern that makes a great 4x8 border.

It's also very common to use the most economical (per area) tile, an 8x8 solid color, and cut those into smaller 4x4, or 2x2 squares, or into strips for herringbone, and other creative layout designs.
